Engineering Career Day, Thursday, February 26

In conjunction with National Engineers Week, each year the Huntington Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) in cooperation with the College of Information Technology and Engineering at Marshall University, hosts an Engineer Career Day.  The half-day event is designed around the National Engineers Week yearly theme which for this year is "Without Engineers the World Stops".

One hundred and twenty of the area's top high school sophomores from Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia who have an interest in engineering and science are invited to come to Huntington and learn more about engineering.  The students get to meet with professional engineers and scientists to learn about a variety of engineering and science subjects and to discuss the curriculum required in high school to prepare for engineering and science courses in college.

Engineering is a career vital to the growth of our region and the nation; yet, current estimates show that less than ten percent of graduating high school seniors has the necessary background for majoring in engineering in college.  The Huntington Post works hard to ensure that our Engineering Career Day will stimulate an interest in engineering that will reinforce the desire of students to take the courses in high school that will allow them to choose engineering as a college major.

It is the 11th annual career day put on by the Huntington Post of SAME. Three $1000 scholarships are awarded annually during Engineers Career Day. This year a fourth award is being added sponsored by the Young Members of the Post.
