MU Engineering Alumni Society Chair Announced

Colonel (Ret) John C. McHaffie, P.E. (BES 1959) has agreed to act as chair of the newly formed Marshall University Engineering Alumni Society. As you may know, John is the author of the recently prepared "MU Engineering History," and has been tireless in his efforts to promote the continued development of engineering and computer science at Marshall.

John was one of those fortunate individuals who was able to be simultaneously involved in two careers, aerospace and the USAF -- each complementing the other. Among this long, overlapping association with contractors, the Air Force Reserves and active duty, he held engineering, supervisory, managerial, and staff positions with the Aeronautical Systems Division at Wright-Patterson AFB, Engineering and Services Center at Tyndall AFB, North American Aviation, McDonnell Douglas, Advanced Sciences, Inc., and Support Systems, Inc.

John left the Air Force in 1983 and retired from aerospace in 1994. He currently resides in Tucson, Arizona, where he continues to be active in professional groups and his research and writing activities. Although an avid outdoorsman and athlete in his earlier years, he still participates in mountaineering, walking, and running.

If you are a Marshall alumnus or friend, you can expect to be hearing from John soon! In the meantime, if you want to ensure your inclusion in the first compilation of our alumni directory, please contact us at cite@marshall.edu.
