Kalayci Family Scholarship Available
Due to the generosity of Tanzer Kalayci, P.E. (BES, ’62), undergraduate engineering and computer science students now have additional opportunities to earn financial assistance during their sophomore, junior and senior years of study.
In late August, Mr. Kalayci and his
wife, Linda, endowed a new scholarship fund in the College of Information
Technology and Engineering, which established the Kalayci Family Scholarship.
The scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students in CITE who
have completed the freshman year. Recipients of the scholarship, to be selected
by the dean upon recommendation from the division chair, must be residents of
Cabell, Lincoln, Mason or Wayne counties, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Awards are
renewable for up to three years, or six semesters, provided that the recipients
maintain good academic standing.
Tanzer Kalayci graduated from Marshall University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. He then embarked on a successful career in civil engineering, becoming a registered professional engineer and eventually becoming the President of Keith and Schnars, P.A., which is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He credits much of his success to a full-tuition scholarship he received from Marshall that enabled him to receive his engineering degree. He also has fond memories of his time in Huntington, and hopes that the new scholarship will open doors for new generations of students. Mr. Kalayci stated “I am truly in awe of the efforts made to make me feel “at home” during my education by the people of West Virginia. I consider Huntington home and I will forever cherish the friendship bestowed upon me.”
“Mr. Kalayci is a wonderful example of Marshall’s proud tradition in engineering and the ongoing support and enthusiasm of graduates from the previous programs,” noted CITE Dean, Dr. Betsy Ennis Dulin. “We are thrilled to be the beneficiaries of his success and also appreciate his remembrance of Marshall University.”
