Sandia National Laboratories Internship Available

The Safety Engineering group at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), located in Albuquerque, New Mexico is looking for a summer intern. The position description is included in the website job posting which closes March 4, 2005. 

Since 1949, SNL has developed science-based technologies that support our national security. Sandia's strategic areas of focus include:

Nuclear Weapons — ensuring the safety of the nuclear weapons stockpile

Nonproliferation and Assessments — reducing our nation's vulnerability to threats of proliferation and weapons of mass destruction

Military Technologies and Applications — developing high-impact responses to emerging national security threats

Energy and Infrastructure Assurance — enhancing the surety of energy and other critical resources

Homeland Security — harnessing science and technology to combat terrorism and protect our nation

Hired summer students  are eligible for paid minimum medical insurance, travel reimbursement (one round trip flight, or per diem and mileage round trip) and student housing options (corporate negotiated summer rates  for fully furnished apartment, including utilities is approximately $1200; 4-persons per  2 bedroom/2 bath apartment).

The selected student is expected to begin employment approximately May 23, 2004 and last for 12 to 15 weeks which is negotiable. 

Program requirements:  Students must be enrolled full time (12 hours undergraduate or 9 hours graduate).  Pay is commensurate with number of credit hours completed.  Students must have a demonstrated minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for technical assignments and 2.5 for non-technical assignments.  Please note that the corporate minimum requirements for regular employment are 3.2 for BS/BA and 3.5 for MS/PhD (should the student be thinking of applying for a regular position in the future).
