American Society of Safety Engineers Chapter Meeting at Bayer CropScience
Oct 04, 2007
The first chapter meeting of the semester was held at Bayer Crop Sciences Institute Plant on October 4th. Twenty two safety students attended!
See attached photos.
Don Elswick, Site HSE Leader of Bayer Crop Science was our gracious host. Bayer Crop Science provided dinner. Don Hall and Don Coats both with Wells Fargo presented an insurance perspective of Ergonomics Evaluations. It was an informative and interesting talk! The group toured some of the Bayer chemical production facilities at the very large and impressive site. Bayer’s emphasis on safety and accident prevention is apparent throughout the site.
MU ASSE business and discussion followed and includes:
- Encouragement for all safety majors to join ASSE and become active in the student chapter (applications at the safety office).
- Announcement that we will be holding elections for chapter officers (pres and v-pres) as our officers are graduating! Morgan Spears and Mike Heaberlin expressed interest. Others interested should contact Professor McIntosh.
- Internship opportunity at RCBI. Contact Professor McIntosh for information. Project will involve working with McIntosh to enhance facility safety at 4 RCBI sites.
- WVU ASSE/AIHA chapters have expressed interest in conducting a joint function. We will be developing ideas and hope to hold a joint meeting in early spring. Please share any ideas with professors McIntosh and Conlon.
- Brickstreet will be accepting applications for the Safety Scholarship for spring semester 2008. Please Carol Henson or Professor McIntosh if questions or for additional information. This is a great opportunity! Last semester only one student applied!
- Finally the 3rd Annual Alumni meeting will be held on Friday October 26th in Drinko Library. All safety students are invited! We would like to have strong attendance from our student population. Last year approximately 40 alumni attended. Great networking opportunity.
Thanks to Bayer Crop Science for hosting the meeting and to Wells Fargo for the interesting presentation!
