Position Description

The College of Information Technology and Engineering at Marshall University invites applications for a tenure-track engineering faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to support the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) degree program in the Weisberg Division of Engineering and Computer Science. The BSE degree is a general engineering degree with an area of emphasis in civil engineering and additional areas of emphasis under development. The preferred start date for the position is August, 2008, but a later start date may be negotiable. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Duties

Successful applicant will teach engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advise and mentor students, participate in research and creative activities, provide service on university and professional committees, and participate in the continued planning, development, and program assessment associated with the undergraduate engineering program.

Qualifications

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in engineering related to civil (environmental or geotechnical preferred) or mechanical engineering and the ability and flexibility to teach a variety of courses in the BSE and MSE programs. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, the potential to develop funded research and creative opportunities, and the ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative, team-oriented environment towards the furtherance of common goals. Professional Engineering registration is strongly preferred.

Background

The Weisberg Division of Engineering and Computer Science was established in Marshall University’s College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE), a multi-disciplinary college with a wide range of faculty expertise. The current undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) program was approved in 2006. The program is growing rapidly in enrollment and facilities, and plans are currently underway to pursue ABET accreditation at the earliest eligibility date. In addition to the BSE degree, CITE offers B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Safety Technology, and M.S. degrees in Engineering, Technology Management, Environmental Science, Safety, and Information Systems.
