CEGAS Research
The Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences, the research arm of CITE, has several projects currently underway.
Dr. Tony Szwilski, Professor:
The USCE has awarded the Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences $488,000 for a project that involves demonstrating a new groundwater remediation technology called 'Well Injection Depth Extraction (WIDE)'. Dr. Szwilski is the principal Investigator. The demonstration site is the former Lockbourne air force base in Ohio. The project involves Marshall University (CEGAS), West Virginia University, North Carolina State University and two small companies. The problem area addressed in this research is optimum removal of free-product JP-4 under extraction operation through scale-up deployment of the WIDE technology. This endeavor is another great example of the US Army works closely with Marshall University. CEGAS and CITE have developed a strong partnership with the Corps over the past decade for mutual benefit
Mr. George Carico, Manager of the Environmental
Management Incubator:
received a grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development
Administration for “Operation and Expansion of the Environmental Management
Incubator at MU”. He is also involved with a project from EPA Region III titled
”Medical Industry Pollution Prevention Outreach Program”.
