Matt Sandy, Hess Stewart & Campbell, PLLC, was a guest speaker at the Lewis College of Business at the Beta Alpha Psi meeting on Thursday, September 3rd. Matt Sandy graduated (summa cum laude) from the Lewis College of Business at Marshall University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 2013. Matt also received a Master of Science in Accountancy from the Lewis College of Business in 2014.
Matt’s presentation featured his transition from being a student to being a full-time employee. He talked about his successes in his first years of full-time employment with the CPA firm, as well as some of the lessons he has learned. He described to students how to interact with clients, and what to do if you have questions on the job.
Being that he just passed the CPA exam, Matt was able to provide students with tips on what made him successful, and the ins-and-outs of applying for the exam, studying for the exam, and waiting for the results. He shared that students may not realize that they get searched before entering the exam room, and that only Google Maps give the correct directions to the exam site in West Virginia! He even brought some of his study materials, and an outline of the exam to share with the students.
After the presentation, Matt was able to answer a lot of questions from the Lewis College of Business Accounting students about career development and what they should do to be as successful as he has been.
Matt Sandy has been employed with Hess, Stewart & Campbell since 2012 as an intern, and is now a part of the auditing and attestation department. Matt has experience participating in audit engagements for non-profit organizations, manufacturers, financial institutions, and employee benefit plans. He also prepares federal and state tax returns for various entities and individuals.
