All teacher education candidates at the initial level must prove competence in the Standards for Teacher Certification, which reflect the conceptual framework of Critical Thinking. These standards align with the standards of the institution, the West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards (WVPTS), the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
