 Graduate Practicum Experience REQUIREMENTS

   

 Practicum Requirement for Courses

In order to participate in the Practicum experience, students must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in the required course at the same time as the scheduled practicum session. For a list of the required courses for your area consult the following: Behavior Disorders Learning DisabilitiesMental Retardation,  or Multi-Categorical.

 

Eligibility Criteria For On-The-Job Placements

In order to qualify for a Special Education On-The-Job Field-Based Experience, the Graduate Student must meet all of the following criteria: (1) Enrollment in a Master’s degree or certification program at Marshall University in an area of special education;   (2) Completion of prerequisite coursework;   (3) Possess or be eligible for a WV 1st class permit in the area in which they are enrolled for the field-based experience;   (4) Employment in a classroom that meets state standards with at least one-half (½) day daily contact with a minimum of four students of the exceptionality for which licensure is being sought;   (5) Authorization from either the Superintendent of Schools or the Director of Special Education and Building Principal for the field-based experience to be conducted in the school setting;   (6) Provision by the school of a master’s level Cooperating Teacher certified in the area of specialization; and   (7) Participation in the orientation session.
