INFORMATION
DELIVERY SERVICES (IDS)
In order to extend and accelerate the availability of access to any
resources that are not part of the Marshall Libraries' collection, IDS
provides a fully integrated approach to Interlibrary Loan and document delivery
using new technology as well as traditional methods. It combines
various functions of interlibrary loan, unmediated document delivery,
commercial document delivery and electronic delivery of journal table of
contents.
University
Libraries' newest automated service is an online ordering, real-time
tracking and delivery system called IDS Express. Users submit requests
by using
the IDS Express system at the IDS
web site.
NEW
AND UPCOMING SERVICES:
-
The
library staff is hard at work on an information literacy plan for
the campus that starts with specialized instruction on the
University 101 and Honors 101 level. When students start taking
courses in their majors, then they will be introduced to subject
specific databases. For instance, students within the College of
Education and Human Services would be introduced to the ERIC
database and other databases related to education. For more
information, visit the Users
Education web site.
-
Academic
Search Premier - This is an Ebsco database for which Marshall
has a 60-day trial. It is similar to an enhanced Academic Search
Elite, but has more full text and indexes more scholarly
periodicals.
-
Marshall
University Libraries have obtained a set of e-books from Net-Library
that will become available sometime during the month of May. While
education is not its strength, librarian Ron Titus found 69 titles
regarding education.
-
The
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation project will also become more
relevant in the fall with the requirement that thesis/dissertations
be published electronically.
