Final IMPACT Dinner Held March 8

The final dinner meeting of the IMPACT Action Teams for the College of Education and Human Services was held on March 8, at 5:00 PM in the John Marshall Dining Room. IMPACT is an acronym for a Teacher Quality grant with the West Virginia Department of Education and means Implementing Model Practices to Assure Competent Teachers.

Following dinner, four presentations supporting the theme of Contextual Learning were given:

  • Victoria Smith, 1996 Milken Award Recipient discussed the West Virginia plan for mentoring new and beginning teachers.

  • Karen Lucas, along with Dr. Jane McKee discussed the creation of a Professional Development Team (PDT) model for teacher preparation, a collaborative venture with Spring Valley High School teachers.

  • Dr. Jane McKee provided a brief history of the IMPACT grant during the evening's final presentation.
