The mission of the June Harless Center for Rural Educational Research and Development is to provide leadership for the state of West Virginia and the Appalachian region in the areas of improving rural education and community development.

The center will provide the educators and the families of rural West Virginia with a support system which will address educational problems, sustain school and community improvement and provide positive growth in all educational factors that impact educators and families.

GOALS:

  1. Establish an organizational base for Rural Education.

  2. Establish a business partners' round table for the support of rural education initiatives.

  3. Establish outreach programs:

    • Rural Education Hall of Fame

    • Harless Scholars

      • Teachers

      • Students

      • Administration

    • Effective Schools Project

      • Partnerships for comprehensive school reform

    • Leadership Academics

    • Arts of Wheels Project

    • Distance Learning Initiative
