Student Teaching Application Forms

Dear Teacher Candidates:

Welcome to a significant transition point in your professional development! You are entering one of the most challenging yet extremely satisfying professions in our society.

Student teaching is the capstone experience and culmination of Marshall University’s teacher preparation program. Through this experience you will demonstrate your professional competence in the West Professional teacher standards (WVPTS) and your ability to assume the multiple roles and complex responsibilities of a highly qualified educator. Student teaching is an extremely important component of the certification program. The primary purpose of student teaching is to apply what has been learned in university courses to the professional setting (i.e., an actual classroom).

Admission to student teaching must be requested by formal application during the semester before the student plans to student teach.  Below are a few things you will need to complete in order to apply for student teaching.  All of these forms must be printed out and returned to the Clinical Experiences Office in JH 201.

The deadline for the application for students who plan to student teach in the Fall Semester is April 12.  For students planning to student teach in the Spring Semester, the deadline for the application is September 15.

Student teaching is NOT offered during the summer term.

Best,

Ms. Kristi James

Director of Clinical Experience
