The Marshall University Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is under the direction of
Dr. Gary E. McIlvain,
ATC. The ATEP is fully accredited by CAATE (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education).
Marshall's ATEP curriculum is a multifaceted program which takes
classroom instruction and adds to it clinical rotations in which
each student gains real life observation and experience working
hand-in-hand with certified athletic trainers, physicians,
physical therapists, and other allied health care professionals.
The curriculum is a rigorous program, which prepares the student
for their national boards. Students have clinical rotations at the
collegiate level, high school level, in the clinic setting, and
other settings, as they are available.
Once a student has been admitted to Marshall University and
declared athletic training as their major, they will take certain
required courses and make application to the athletic training
program. Acceptance to the athletic training program is
competitive and separate from acceptance to Marshall University.
