Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Admi 4: Admission to Teacher Education" mean? It means you have completed/satisfied the following requirements:

  1. An ACT Composite of 21 or higher.
  2. You have passed all parts of the PPST (or ACT 26 Composite).
  3. Successful completion of EDF 218/270.
  4. You have at least a 2.7 GPA at Marshall University.
  5. You have at least a 2.7 GPA Overall.
  6. You have completed at least 24 hours (Transfer student, must have completed 12 hours at MU).

Alternative Admission Policy for Admi 4:

  1. An ACT Composite of 20 or less.
  2. You have passed all parts of the PPST.
  3. Successful completion of EDF 218/270.
  4. You have at least a 2.71 GPA at Marshall University.
  5. You have at least a 2.71 GPA Overall.
  6. You have completed at least 24 hours (Transfer student, must have completed 12 hours at MU).

What does "Admi 5: Junior Methods/Level II Clinicals" mean? It means you have completed/satisfied the following requirements:

  1. Successful completion of EDF 218/270.
  2. You have been admitted to Teacher Education.
  3. Successful completion of EDF 319 (You must receive an application for a junior evaluation in EDF 319.)
  4. You have completed 12 hours of Professional Education core courses (9 hours if your specialization is 9-12)
  5. You have at least a 2.7 GPA Overall (all course work completed at MU and at any other college/university you have attended)
  6. You have at least a 2.7 GPA at Marshall University
  7. You have at least a 2.7 GPA in each of your specializations
  8. You have at least a 2.7 GPA in your Professional Education courses

Once you have met the requirements listed above, you may make application for your junior methods/clinicals. Applications must be submitted by midterm of the semester PREVIOUS to enrolling for your clinicals. The deadline date for making application will be posted on the bulletin boards throughout Jenkins Hall. For more information see Tammy Aliff, JH 232.



What does "Admi 6: Student Teaching/(Capstone)" mean? It means you have completed/satisfied the following requirements:"

  1. You have completed all of your Professional Education core courses with the exception of EDF 475 and all other prerequisites.
  2. You have at least a 2.7 GPA Overall(all course work completed at MU and at other college/university you have attended)
    You have at least a 2.7 GPA at Marshall University
    You have at least a 2.7 GPA in each of your specializations
    You have at least a 2.7 GPA in your Professional Education courses
  3. You have completed at least 90 percent of your course work in your teaching specialization(s). Applicants must complete a minimum of 100 hours prior to the beginning of student teaching.
  4. Applications must be completed by midterm of the semester previous to enrolling for your student teaching experience. The deadline date for making application will be posted outside the Office of Clinical Experiences, JH 232. It will be the responsibility of the student to insure that the above requirements have been met prior to beginning student teaching.

What is the Marshall Plan?

The Marshall Plan went into effect for students who enrolled at Marshall University beginning with the 1995 fall semester. There are five main parts of the Marshall Plan.

  1. Writing Across the Curriculum (3 hours). You can meet this requirement by taking one Marshall course designated as a Writing Intensive. These courses will be denoted "Writing Intensive" in the Schedule of Classes.
  2. Computer Literacy (3 - 4 hours). You can meet this requirement by taking CI 102 and CI 350.
  3. International (6 hours) and Multicultural (3 hours) Studies. You can meet the International requirement by taking HST 103 and GEO 317. You can meet the Multicultural requirement by taking SOS 207.
  4. Integrated Science and Mathematics ( 4 hours). You can meet this requirement by taking any ISC course.
  5. Capstone Experience. This requirement can be completed during student teaching.

Computer-Based Praxis I Exam (PPST)

The PRAXIS I is available as a computer-based exam at the Marshall University Testing Center. The Testing Center is located in Room G-45, Morrow Library. The PRAXIS I consists of three test sections-Reading, Writing, and Math. Each section is scheduled for a two-hour time block, and scored individually. The cost for the PRAXIS I is- One exam-$75.00, Two exams-$110, Three exams-$125.00 if you take all three exams on the same day. However, you can pay $145 for all three exams and take them at different times.

The PRAXIS I is given, Monday-Saturday. All three exam sections can be scheduled for the same day, or on different days if the student prefers. It is recommended that you make appointments two weeks in advance for best testing time selections. The center accepts checks or money orders (payable to Educational Testing Service-Praxis), as well as, ETS vouchers, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. To make an appointment by telephone, a credit card is necessary. Full payment is due when scheduling appointments.

Marshall Testing Center exam dates may vary according to University holidays and staff vacations. Advance notification of date changes will be provided.

Passing Scores for Computer-Based Praxis I (PPST):

Reading- 321
Writing- 318
Mathematics- 317


The Reading and Math scores are displayed on the computer screen immediately following test completion. The Writing exam score, plus official scores, will be mailed to the examinee and institutions in 4-6 weeks. Exams can be repeated on the computer every 60 days if necessary. The Paper-Based Praxis I Tests are no longer given at the MU Testing Center.



The Graduate Record Exam (GRE):

The Graduate Record Exam is a computer-based exam available at the Marshall University Testing Center. The GRE has a four-hour seat time, and a cost of $115.

Unofficial scores for the Verbal and Quantitative sections will be displayed on the computer after test completion. The official scores, including the Analytical Writing section, will be mailed to the examinee and the selected institutions. Please allow 2-3 weeks for typed essay scores.
