The College of
Education and Human Services is the oldest academic unit
within Marshall University dating back to 1867. The College of
Education and Human Services is currently home to over 4,000
students. With approximately 45 degree programs offered for
undergraduate students, approximately 36 masters degree programs,
two doctoral programs, continuing education programs, and multiple
service programs the COEHS is the destination for those who strive
to serve others.

The
Division of Exercise Science, Sport, & Recreation (ESSR) is
designed for those who would like to have careers in the athletic
training, athletic management/marketing, recreation, exercise
physiology, fitness, or a similar fields. The ESSR division offers
graduate and undergraduate degree programs in the areas of Adult
Fitness/Exercise Physiology,
Athletic Training,
Park and Leisure Services,
and Sport Management and
Marketing. It also provides hands on training to students in a
variety of ways including the Athletic Training,
Human Performance (HPL), and
exercise physiology laboratories and internships in real life
settings with practicing clinicians. The laboratories are equipped
with the capability of performing a variety of assessments to
facilitate education, research, and community service in multiple
disciplines that include athletic training, exercise physiology,
cardiac rehabilitation, health promotion, and disease prevention.

For those who are interested in
working with others outside of the traditional classroom setting,
the Division of Human Development and
Allied Technology features several programs of interest.
Offering both undergraduate and master’s level program,
Adult and Technical Education
is designed towards any students interested in working with adult
education or business and industry training.
Counseling offers a
pre-professional undergraduate degree as well as a professional
masters program for those interested in working in various
counseling fields. Those interested in family environment studies
or retail merchandising should look into the
Family and Consumer Science
department with assistance in a career working helping families
improve their living situations or work in the retail industry.

Anyone interested in a teaching
career need look no farther than the Division of School of
Education which has been accredited by NCATE since 1954. The
School of Education features teacher education programs ranging
from early childhood education to elementary/secondary education.
With a variety of specializations including reading, special
education, and many other focus areas for both undergraduates and
those returning to school to pursue a masters or a second degree.
The COEHS offers doctoral programs in Curriculum Development and
Educational Leadership as well as an Educational Specialist
degree. In addition to degree programs the school of education can
assist current teachers in continuing their education in an ever
changing environment.
