GRADUATE PROGRAM COMMITTEE MEETING

March 29, 2006

 

PRESENT:       Beverly Farrow, Bill McDowell, Ruth Ann Murphy, Jane McKee, Mike Sullivan, Ron Childress

NEW BUSINESS

·           M. Sullivan made a motion was made to approve the minutes of February 22, 2006 (B. McDowell second); motion passed.

 

·           Course Addition:

SPSY 751 Program Evaluation

 

R. Childress provided background information.  After a brief discussion and questions, B. McDowell made a motion to approve the course addition (B. Farrow second); motion passed

 

·        Reading Specialist Certification Refiling

 

     Noel Bowling provided background information. The proposed changes include the addition of CIRG 623 Reading Instruction for Literacy Facilitators and CI 550 Writing in an Integrated Framework.  The addition of these courses supports the shift in program emphasis from solely the teaching of struggling readers to classroom literacy instruction and the training of literacy facilitators.

 

     Refiling approved pending revision of coversheet.

 

·        School Counseling Refiling

 

      Bob Rubenstein provides background information.  COUN 675 Legal & Ethical Issues course replaced an elective and was approved by Graduate Council.  There are two other options for non-ed majors (LS 532 & EDF 665).  This brings the program in align with CACREP standards

 

      Refiling approved

 

·        MAT Refiling

 

      Emily Waugh provided the background information.  There was a brief discussion and some questions.

 

      Refiling approved pending minor revision of coversheet

 

OTHER

 

It was noted that there are no changes to the refilling of the Preschool, Special Needs, or Gifted programs
