Dr. Danny G. Fulks Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Danny Fulks served as professor in the College of Education from 1968 – 1998.

Dr. Fulks or “Dr. Dan the Motivation Man” as students affectionately called him, had an ease in interacting with people that made students feel like what they did mattered, making them feel special. He was never afraid to meet the needs of his students. Former students recall his smile and how he encouraged having fun while learning through discovery. His personalized lessons were woven with inspiring history and Appalachian folklore. He led by example on how to create a warm inviting classroom climate. One student noted how he was the inspiration for how she works with her own students today. Details such as class t-shirts and scratch and sniff stickers encouraged all to remain “young at heart”

Dr. Fulks took great pride in teaching and it came with a natural compassion. He treated everyone as an equal. He was kind and gentle and focused on strengths while teaching “real world experience.”

“He was much more than a professor; he was an educator of all aspects of life.”
