The following list of scholarships are available to COEPD students. All applications should be submitted to the Office of Student Services, Susan Midkiff, by May 15th to awarded for the following year. Jo Ashworth Memorial Scholarship

Description

Established in honor of Jo Ashworth who was an educator for 37 years. Mrs. Ashworth received her BA and MA from Marshall University.

Ada L. Bias Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education

Established by the College in 1986 from the estate of Ada L. Russell Bias.

Carole A. Vickers Scholarship

Description

Dr. Carole A. Vickers received her BA degree in 1955 and earned her MA in 1960 at Marshall University. Dr. Vickers served at Marshall University as Dean of the College of Education and Human Services from 1988 to 1995 and as a professor from 1966 to 1998 in the form Home Economics department.

Colin A. Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Description

Established in 2003. Named after Dr. Margaret C. Campbell’s brother. Dr. Campbell was a professor of education at Marshall University. In 1987 Dr. Campbell received the university’s first Distinguished Service Award for her 30 years of service and was acclaimed for the pioneering efforts to improve education statewide.

Dorothy E. Hicks Physical Education

Description

Dr. Hicks was a faculty member at Marshall University in the Exercise Science, Sport and Recreation program

Criteria

  • Undergraduate student in the Exercise Science, Sport and Recreation Program
  • Physical Education major who plans to become a teacher
  • Priority given to female students
  • Upperclassmen: GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Award shall be made at the beginning of the semester in which the recipient is fulfilling her student teaching requirement

Dr. Frank C. and Amine A. Hodges Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Neil L. Gibbins Scholarship

Description

Established in 1992. Dr. Negangard was a Professor in the School of Education at Marshall University.

E. Joann Price Memorial Scholarship

Description

Established in 2001. This scholarship is funded by the Hershel C. Price Education Foundation and is named after Joann Price, Hershel’s niece. Joann Price was trustee of the foundation at the time of her death in 1998. Ms. Price was a Huntington native who graduated from Huntington East High School and Marshall University with a degree in Education. She was president of Price Limited, Inc.

Kevin Russell Bowen Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Kevin Russell Bowen, who served as Student Senate President.

  • Social Studies Major (if no Social Studies major applies, may be awarded to any education major)

Lyell V. and Pauline Dunfee Douthat Scholarship

Description

Lyell V. Douthat was a former Associate Professor of education at Marshall University. While he was a student at Marshall he played baseball and was student body president. He earned his BA, cum laude from Marshall University and his MS in Education Administration from Ohio University. Pauline Dunfee Douthat graduated from Marshall University in 1924. During her husband’s tenure at Marshall, she was very active in the Faculty Wives Club.

  • Financial Need: a student who would be unable to finish college because of financial need
  • GPA: must have proven themselves through scholastic qualification and motivation to be a serious student

Margaret Pace Scholarship

Description

Established in 2004 by the Pace Family Foundation, Inc. Ms. Margaret Ann Pace received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Special Education at Marshall University in 1965. She also earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia majoring in Mental Retardation in 1968. She received a Master of Arts degree in Special Education from Marshall University in 1971.

  • First priority given to students from Mercer County, WV
  • Second priority given to residents of any southern WV counties.

Miss H. Perk Daniels Endowed Scholarship

Mr. & Mrs. Charles B. Ford

Description

Mr. Ford was an agent for the C&O Railroad in Huntington and Mrs. Ford was well known as a public school teacher in Cabell County.

Sterling and Crystal Evans Memorial Scholarship

Description

Established in 1993 by W. Daniel Evans, the son of Sterling and Crystal Evans. Sterling and Crystal both graduated from Marshall University and began their teaching careers in one room schools in rural West Virginia.

Susan Ruth Smith Bradberry Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1997 in memory of Mrs. Bradberry, Marshall University alumni and dedicated special education teacher whose commitment to excellence and concern for students was exemplary.

Theodore “Ted” Hundley III Scholarship

Description

Established in 2005 in his memory by many of his friends and co-workers. He was a “master” teacher. Not only did he have a comprehensive knowledge of history, but also had a genuine love for his subject and the ability to impart both his knowledge and his love of history to his students.

Wilbur E. Myers Memorial Scholarship

Description

Wilbur E. Myers was a dedicated advocate of the H.E.L.P. Program.  He was instrumental in building of the original section of Wilbur E. Myers Hall in 1992 as well as the addition in 2000.  He was very concerned that students enrolled in H.E.L.P. would graduate from Marshall University lacking adequate reading skills, thus preventing them from functioning as successful professionals.  This scholarship, we believe, is excaly what Wilbur E. Myers would have selected as his memorial.

William Eugene Watson Scholarship
