Annual Trip to New York City

This year: February 8 - 12, 2009

 

The Metropolitan Museum of ArtEach year students from Marshall University's Department of Art and Design travel to New York City for four to five days and stay in hotels in and around Times Square. Faculty accompany students as they travel throughout the city visiting galleries, museums and various other cultural interests. The trip always proves to be incredibly valuable and pertinent to the students' development, and it's great fun. Professor Jonathan Cox manages this event.

 

Students attending the 2009 NY trip need to fill out this attendee information form before the we leave on February 8th.

 

Info for this year's trip:

A deposit of $100 will reserve your space on the trip. The remainder is due by January 31, 2009. Checks can be either delivered to Jonathan Cox at his office in the Art Warehouse or left in his departmental mailbox on the 7th floor of Smith Hall. Also, be sure to include your roomate request if you have one.

The Marshall University Department of Art &design pays for the bus which holds approximately 55 people. Those in rooms of four persons will pay $265 each. Three in a room is $330/person; two in a room is $460/person; a single is $905. All other costs (meals, museum entries, entertainment, travel in NYC) are borne by the individual.

Sunday, February 8, 2009:

- 6:45 am, leave by bus from Smith Hall, Music Building, Hal Greer Blvd. entrance, for New York

- Arrive approximately 8 pm in New York at the Hotel Edison, 228 W. 48th St. (212) 840-5000

- Get dinner; walk around mid-town Manhattan

 

Monday, the 9th:

- 10:00 am, leave hotel walking - to the Museum of Modern Art

- afternoon at the Guggenheim Museum, 88th and 5th Ave.

 

Tuesday, the 10th:

- 10:00 am Metropolitan Museum of Art or Chelsea Galleries

- In Chelsea, see the Dia Center for the Arts 548 W. 22nd Street

 

Wednesday, the 11th:

- 10:00 Metropolitan Museum of Art or Chelsea Galleries

- Whitney Museum of American Art

- also in Long Island City, see the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center (22 Jackson Ave. at 46th St.) or

- the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, America's best Graphic Design Museum 91st and 5th Ave. both on or just off upper 5th Ave.

 

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

- 6:45 am, leave New York from the Edison Hotel lobby

- 8:00 pm arrive back in Huntington at the Music Building on Hal Greer

 

All evenings are on your own; go to the theater, clubs, concerts, opera, ballet, etc.

Half price ticket booth is half a block from the hotel.
