General Information:

Areas will be delineated on Friday March 6th and Friday March 13th in the Birke Art Gallery; each student will have an assigned area to display their work. Work must be up by 4:00 pm. Students should see faculty for help or advice prior to the review and can ask for feedback while installing. You must email all label information to gallery director John Farley- farley53@marshall.edu- no later than two days prior to your installation date. Use the following format:

Name
Title
Media
Class Name/Number

The majority of work exhibited should be from your foundation courses: Art 214, 215,217,218 and 219. Three to four works from each class should be displayed, depending on available space. The work should be the best work you did in those classes as evidenced by your grades, critiques, and in consultation with your instructors. You may exhibit work from other classes, but the majority of your work should be from foundation classes.

If you are a transfer student you should exhibit work done in classes that were the equivalent to our foundation courses or work completed at Marshall thus far.

All work must be professionally presented. It is suggested that 2-D work be matted or mounted unless the work is very large. All work should be displayed to its best advantage. Work should be clean- without folds or tears, fingerprints or stains. Work should be well organized in the display area- neat and level, properly spaced. If possible, group work from each class together. You will need to label all work shown with the class in which it was completed.

3-D work may be presented either free standing, on a pedestal, or in a photograph that is a minimum of 6x8”. If you chose to present a photograph of your sculpture it must be taken against a neutral background, and you should present multiple photographs showing different viewpoints.

Each student must write a brief self-assessment. This should be a computer-generated document, double-spaced, and about 1½ - 2 pages in length. This statement will be two-fold in content. In this assessment the student will both address his/her strengths and weaknesses in terms of the foundations experience and propose 2-3 areas of emphasis within Art and Design that they would like to pursue.

Each student must digitally photograph all work presented, and create a power point presentation with images and all identifying information. Use either a simple black or white background for your digital presentation. Include a full identification for each slide of your presentation. You will then present your work and self-assessment to the faculty at a time to be announced on Friday March 13th or 20th. Presentations should be about five minutes in length.

The review by all full time faculty will take place from Monday 3/9 to Thursday 3/12 and Monday 3/16- Thursday 3/19. Students must not interfere with faculty while they are completing the review forms.

All work MUST be removed by 5:00 pm Thursday March 12th and Thursday March 19th. All nails, screws, staples and other hanging devices must be removed from the display panels and pedestals or stools return to the proper place. You must leave the walls of the gallery as you found them- clean and white!

The results of the review may be picked up from Dr. Heather Stark (office-Smith Hall 743G) one week after the review. Check your email for announcements and make an appointment to pick up and discuss your results.

Students are required to complete the review with a “pass”.

To accomplish this every student must:

a. Have earned a “C” or better in Art 101,214,215,217,218, 219, and one
300 level art course (Art 255- Beginning Painting will be considered as a 300 level course).
b. Participate in the foundations review in compliance with the instructions above.
c. Receive an overall score of 15 or better (see attached faculty evaluation form)
