MUSIC

Learn how Pierre Cruzatte shared his fiddle music with the Mandan Indians in their meeting on New Year's Day 1805 and how that helped gain the trust of the Mandans who were important in the success of Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery. Choose a title from our series Tune Up a Tale and hear instruments in a woodwind quintet tell the story of Aesop's Fable Lion and the Mouse or the Russian Tale Peter and the Wolf.

Modules for teacher to learn the content that they can readily integrate into their curriculums have been designed to provide high-quality professional development. Lesson plans with age-appropriate activities with content standards and student outcomes aligned with 21st century learning have been designed for teaching students. Once students have been engaged by classroom learning, they will be ready to participate in a virtual field trip presented by an arts professional who will interact with students about their experiences. Pre- and post-tests have been included to measure student learning along with extended lesson plans for continued arts learning in classrooms.

The resources section provides ideas for incorporating arts in classrooms, sources for supplies and books, materials for curriculum integration, on-line sources, bibliographies, and references in arts education and technology applications in learning.

Below is a list of Virtual Field Trip modules falling under the category of Music:

  • Pierre Cruzatte: Fiddler on the Trail with Lewis & Clark
