Welcome to the website of Marshall University’s Community School for the Arts. Our mission is to provide live arts experiences in music, art, theater, and dance through distance learning technologies. We offer a schedule of
virtual field trips delivered from studios at Marshall University to your school which come to you free through the generous support of the Benedum Foundation. On our website you will find links to student resources and professional development for teachers. Portions of the website are accessible by anyone interested in arts education, but modules that support each of the virtual field trips are password protected, requiring registration for each of the VFT’s.
Modules have been custom designed to give teachers and students activities that prepare them for each VFT program. The format of the modules includes pre- and post-tests, lesson plans, online resources for both teachers and students, and background preparation for teachers. The work of developing materials and researching the web has been done to make it easy for teachers to integrate our modules into their curriculums. Preparing for the VFT insures a higher level of learning and connection with the presenter. Through the VFT presentation, students will have opportunities to interact with musicians, artists, dancers, and theater experts without the physical barrier of the stage or distance of travel.
You are invited to explore the website where you will find a variety of resources that can inspire interest in arts learning. Once a teacher registers for a virtual field trip, activities in the module will be available and learning through the arts can begin. The arts are wonderful way to integrate learning in so many ways and give students ways to connect their understandings and explorations.
If you have a suggestion for a virtual field trip, send your idea. We currently have teachers in schools developing modules that will bring new and exciting opportunities in technology applications and arts learning to their schools. Click here to find out what educators have been saying about CSA’s virtual field trips.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
