Marshall University Marching Band Alumni
Alumni are an important
and vital ingredient to the growth and success of the current Marching Band
program. We hope that you will want to take advantage of the following
opportunities for involvement.
Alumni Band Weekend is planned for Homecoming on Oct. 3, 2009.
The MU vs. East Carolina football game kickoff is at 12:00 noon. This will
change our normal Alumni Band and Homecoming Parade Activities.
Dear Alumni of the Marshall
University Marching Band,
We invite you to
dust off your band instrument, baton or flag and come join us on October 3 at
the Homecoming Game vs. East Carolina.
We would also like to invite you to march with us in the Homecoming
Parade on Thursday, Oct. 1 if you plan to be in town.
Alumni support and participation are crucial to the success of any
university. I am very excited about
reviving the Marshall University Alumni Band and hope that the Alumni Band
Weekend will become an annual event that everyone will look forward to each
year.
The tentative
weekend schedule for the Homecoming events is as follows:
Thursday, Oct. 1- 5:00 p.m.-
pick up Alumni Band T-shirt, cap and music in the new Band Complex on Level A of
the Henderson Center basketball arena.
Enter through the northeast entrance through the glass doors with the
Marching Thunder logo and follow the signs.
6:15 p.m.-
Meet at the Big Sandy Arena on 3rd Ave. downtown to line up for
parade.
7:00 p.m.- Homecoming
Parade- ends at the West Stadium Parking Lot (possible short pep rally)
Friday, Oct. 2- 3:30-5:30 p.m.-
Open Marching Thunder rehearsal- new artificial turf practice field
adjacent to the Henderson Center and the new Band Complex
5:30 p.m.- You are invited
to attend the formal dedication of the new Band Complex (light refreshments)
Saturday, Oct. 3- Homecoming
9:00 a.m.- Registration-
Meet in the new Band Complex in the Henderson Center.
Enter through the glass doors on the northeast side and follow the signs.
**Each Alumni Band member
will be given an Alumni Band T-shirt which will serve as the “uniform” for the
performances.
9:15- 10:00a.m.-
Alumni Band rehearsal on band practice field adjacent to Henderson Band
Complex
10:30 a.m.-
Warm-up/rehearsal with Marching Thunder on new practice field
11:15 a.m.- March to stadium
with Marching Thunder to perform pregame
The Alumni Band will perform
the Star-Spangled Banner and the Marshall University Alma Mater on the field
with the Marching Thunder during the Pre-game show, as well as Sons of Marshall.
12:00 noon- Kickoff-
Marshall vs. East Carolina (Homecoming)
Two
complimentary tickets will be provided for alumni band members that do not have
tickets to the game. The
complimentary tickets will be located in the Northeast corner of the stadium.
We have a limited supply of
percussion and color guard equipment
available for use by alumni band members.
We do not have any other instruments available for use. We are using
every instrument that we own as a result of the recent growth of the band.
Please complete
