The College of Health Professions (COHP) is one of the largest colleges on Marshall University's campus. With over 1300 students, we offer a broad spectrum of programs leading to careers in health professions. These programs include communication disorders, clinical lab science, dietetics, nursing and social work. Through cooperative agreements with the St. Mary's Center for Education we also provide students with the opportunity to earn an associate degree in nursing, bachelor's degree in respiratory care or a bachelor's degree in medical imaging.

Careers in health related professions are one of the major areas of growth in today's economy and job market. The COHP faculty and staff take the approach of planning for tomorrow today. In the past year we have added one undergraduate and one professional level program to our curriculum. The Bachelor of Science - Medical Imaging is our latest addition to our undergraduate programs. This program began accepting students for fall 2009. It is the only baccalaureate program in West Virginia for medical imaging. We also received approval for the first Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) in southern West Virginia. This professional level program will tentatively begin accepting students within the next academic year or two.

Plans are also currently underway to add several additional new programs and opportunities within health profession education areas that will be of benefit to prospective students and employers locally, regionally, and nationally. The college is always looking for more ways to bring these  programs closer to student populations in the more rural areas of our state.

The COHP is a regional leader in quality education. Our college advances student learning through a nationally recognized faculty, by promoting diversity, and by constantly assessing and adapting its programs. One of our goals is to continue to improve service to our students, our community and the world at large.

In addition to adding new programs, the COHP strives to remain current in the ever changing world of health care technology. We implemented wireless technology into our classrooms through the use of clickers (classroom response systems) and smart technology (PDAs and smart phones). Much of this technology mirrors the technology used in hospitals and other health care agencies.

Welcome to our college web page. The COHP has a rich history of progress and is one of the cornerstones of the university. I invite you to take this opportunity to explore the avenues of preparation for careers in health care that we offer. Our staff and faculty are student focused and dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of service. Please feel free to contact the Office of Student Services (304 696-5270 or cohpstudentservices@marshall.edu) if you have any questions regarding how the COHP can help you achieve your education and career goals.

Interim Dean
