Welcome to the Social Work department at Marshall University. We are a leading regional provider of social work education and our graduates earn a Bachelors in Science of Social Work degree. Located in a major university setting in Southern West Virginia, we have access to resources to provide students with both quality inpatient and community-based social work experiences. Social Work is an exciting, rewarding, and fast-growing profession that is in high demand. With contemporary social issues such as child abuse, homelessness, racism, discrimination against people of color and income levels, AIDS, poverty, aging, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, violence against women, and juvenile delinquency, there has never been a more important need for social workers. Graduates from the Marshall University Social Work Department have an excellent track record in finding employment in the Social Work field with 100% of our graduates employed. Alumni work in hospitals, mental health centers, shelters for battered women, and numerous other human service agencies. There continues to be a growing need for social workers in the Tri-State area and nationwide. The BSW degree is the entry level into the profession. Clearly we live in a dynamic time for the health care industry. With changes in the industry being proposed from the US President and congress, the business world, and consumers, the need for highly skilled social workers will certainly grow and graduates from Marshall University will have the skill set necessary to lead the profession through changes today and into the future.
