Living/Learning Community

College of Health Professions Living Learning Communities

For students who live on campus, living learning communities can be your home away from home.  The COHP is very happy to support two communities this year - a Freshman LLC and an Upperclassman LLC.  The Freshman community will be housed in the Wellness Center resident halls while the Upperclassman community will be housed in Wellman Hall in the Commons.  We encourage all our students who live on campus to take part in the COHP Living Learning experience.

Students in the LLC become an extended family.  The residents have many things in common.  All students in the living learning community are health professions majors.  The classes and even the class schedules of our LLC residents are similar.  The Resident Advisor (RA) for our communities are also health professions majors.

The COHP supports our living learning communities through health related programming.  Special materials specific to health professions courses are available in the lounge areas of our communities.  These resources are available to all our LLC residents.

Some comments from residents in our current LLC include:

  •  I think the living learning community is absolutely wonderful!
  •  All of us take the same kind of classes so it's a great way to study together, help each other, and get to know more people in your field.
  •  I loved living in the COHP LLC.  I've been to every program the floor has offered and loved them all.
  •  I think the college put a wonderful amount of effort into working with the LLC, making the programs fun and worthwhile.  Way to go!
  •  I love my resident advisor and the girls that live on the floor.
  •  This is so much better than living on a regular dorm floor!

Regardless of your student status (freshman or upperclassman) you will benefit from living in one of our communities by:

  • developing a network of friends.
  • improving grades.
  • meeting people who have a common goal.
  • participating in social activities related to their academic major.
  • finding help and encouragement informally through networking with
    peers.
  • transforming a residential setting into an active, supportive and exciting
    place to live and learn.
  • maximizing each student's academic program's effectiveness with
    increased interaction with faculty.

We encourage you to select one of our communities as your on campus residence.  Just indicate the COHP Health Professions LLC on your housing application.
