The nursing graduate programs are open to a limited number of qualified applicants. Admission is determined on a competitive basis. The application deadline is April 1 for fall and October 1 for the spring semester.

All applicants must meet the general admission requirements the Marshall University Graduate College.

Admission Requirements:

    * Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a program  that is accredited by the NLNAC and CCNE. Applicants who are graduates of programs outside the accrediting jurisdiction will be evaluated on an individual basis.
    * Undergraduate course credits for basic statistics and basic research.
    * Scholastic achievement as evidenced by an overall grade point average (undergraduate/graduate) and aptitude for graduate study as indicated by the Graduate Record Examination.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores

    * Evidence of a current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in a US jurisdiction.

Applicants who do not meet ll the requirements for regular admission will be considered for conditional admission into the program.  Conditional admission may be given to applicants whose baccalaureate degrees do not meet the criteria for regular admission; whose undergraduate/graduate average and Graduate Record Examination scores do not fall within the range required for regular admission; whose prerequisite course work or records are incomplete.  Students who receive conditional admission have one semester to satisfy the 'condition' underwhich they are admitted and to achieve full admission into the program.
 
The steps for applying for admission to the MSN program are:

    * Apply for admission to Marshall University and pay all required fees.
    * Complete the Graduate Nursing Program Application .
    * Submit official transcripts from ALL schools attended.
    * Submit verification of current unencumbered license as RN in a US jurisdiction. All students must have a West Virginia RN license before beginning graduate nursing courses.

 APPLICANTS TO THE NURSE-MIDWIFERY AREA MUST COMPLETE AN INTERVIEW WITH THE DIRECTOR OF THE MSN PROGRAM AT MARSHALL AND AT SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY.


It is the applicant's responsibility to complete both the university and the MSN application, submit all transcripts, and pay all admission fees.  It is also the applicant's responsibility to make sure that all required documentation is included in their application file prior to the deadline.

Admission Process

Students are admitted into the graduate level nursing programs for both the fall and spring terms.  The application deadlines are April 1 for fall and October 1 for the spring semester.

All materials required as part of the application process must be submitted to the Marshall University Graduate College Admissions Office.  This includes all transcripts, verification of RN licensure, and the nursing graduate application.

Only those applications that are complete by the deadline will be processed and reviewed by the Graduate Academic Planning and Standards Committee.

Students will be notified of the committee's admission decision by the MU Graduate College.  Upon notification of admission, students will have two weeks to contact their program advisor to develop a plan of study.  Newly admitted students will have until May 15 for fall and November 15 for spring to meet with their advisor and develop this plan.

Admission records are only kept on file for one year.  Students who are admitted but do not register for class will have their files deleted and must reapply for admission when they are ready to return.
