| Students majoring in Communication
Disorders are given clinical assignments which are deemed appropriate for
their respective levels of academic training and their personal and professional
behaviors and attitudes. In as much as the Marshall University Speech and
Hearing Center assumes the responsibility of ensuring quality services
for all clients, students who exhibit communication disorders (such as
those of articulation, language, voice, fluency and/or hearing) must enroll
in therapy during any semester in which they accept any clinical assignment
(which includes, but is not limited to, 325 labs, junior observation, student
teaching, Marshall University clinic and outside practicum sites). Furthermore,
students must demonstrate a sincere effort (i.e., regular attendance, consistent
progress) to alter communication behaviors, as judged by the clinical supervisor.
Failure to comply with this requirement may result in removal of the student
from his/her clinical assignment and/or no assurance of future clinical
assignments.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I understand that having
a communication disorder does not preclude my becoming a speech/language
pathologist but that I must demonstrate a sincere effort, as specified
above, to modify my communication behaviors in order to fulfill this requirement.
