Graduate Catalog describes "Special Topics" as a "program of study not normally covered in other courses." Special
topics courses fitting this description may be taken with the mutual agreement of student and instructor.
Special topics courses,
however, may not be substituted for regularly scheduled courses except under the following circumstances:
- The student has determined
the availability and willingness of an instructor.
- The student has shown
promise for successful, independent academic work by having a graduate GPA of 3.5.
- The student has a valid
reason why he/she has not taken the course in the regular sequence and demonstrates that taking it when it is regularly scheduled
would cause undue hardship or unreasonable delay in his/her completion of the program.
- The student has submitted to
the Graduate faculty, in writing, his/her request for such a substitution document #1-3 above and has received approval from the faculty
prior to taking the course.
