Course Philosophy: This course is intended to aid students in becoming confident
and articulate communicators. As a requirement by the College of Business, it is
hoped that students will learn more about the complex world of business
communication and how to communicate in a variety of business settings through
taking this course and participating in the assignments.
Attendance Policy: Attendance is mandatory. It is important that you attend all
sessions.
Absences must be University approved such as illness, death in the family or
institutional activities that are covered under the university handbook. Make-up
work is at the discretion of the Instructor. Failure to notify me promptly may
result in a student not getting credit for a missed assignment. Also, for each
day a presentation is late, 10 points may be deducted from the student’s grade
until the assignment is completed. It is the responsibility of the student to
obtain any materials handed out during an absence.
Should we experience inclement weather, please refer to Marshall’s policy
regarding weather related closure at www. marshall.edu/www/policy/policy 07
html.
Plagiarism Policy: All work must be your own. Using information and ideas that
are not your own, without acknowledging the source, is not acceptable and can
result in a failing grade.
University Policy for Students with Disabilities: Marshall University is
committed to equal opportunity in education for all students, including those
with physical, learning and psychological disabilities. University policy states
that it is the responsibility of students with disabilities to contact the
Office of Disabled Student Services (DSS) in Prichard Hall 117, phone 304
6966-2271 to provide documentation of their disability. Following this, the DSS
coordinator will send a letter to each of the student’s instructors outlining
the academic accommodation he or she will need to ensure equality in classroom
experiences, outside assignments, testing and grading. The instructor and
student will meet to discuss how the accommodations requested will be provided.
