Attendance- Attendance is important for the success of this course. If you need to miss a class, please email or call me. Because this class only meets once a week, we will have assignments every week. After 1 unexcused absence, a 5 pt. grade deduction will be in effect. Check Marshall University student handbook for list of excused absences.
Late assignments- Because of limited class time, speeches may not be able to be presented after the scheduled date. If you know you cannot be here in advance, please see me or switch dates with another student (which also must be approved by me).
Teaching Strategies- Lecture, group work, and constructive critique.

Other tidbits for this class…….
-Respect- Because this is a speech course, I expect students to treat one another with respect. There will be no talking, laughing, cell phone usage, etc. while students are giving speeches or taking tests.
-Cell phones- Should be turned off or put on silent while in class. Please don’t feel the need to share your ring tones with the rest of the class. Keep your phones on silent or vibrate.
-Speech Days- On speech days, please do not chew gum, wear hats, or dress in a way that distracts your audience. You do not have to “dress up,” however you are expected to look presentable. Speeches may be videotaped for assignments.
-Papers- All papers must be typed, with 12 point font, and use spell check!!!! Outlines due on the same night speech is given.
“Policy for Students with Disabilities: Marshall University is committed to equal opportunity in education for all students, including those with physical, learning and psychological disabilities. University policy states that it is the responsibility of students with disabilities to contact the Office of Disabled Student Services (DSS) in Prichard Hall 117, phone 304 696-2271 to provide documentation of their disability. Following this, the DSS Coordinator will send a letter to each of the student’s instructors outlining the academic accommodation he/she will need to ensure equality in classroom experiences, outside assignment, testing and grading. The instructor and student will meet to discuss how the accommodation(s) requested will be provided. For more information, please visit http://www.marshall.edu/disabled or contact Disabled Student Services Office at Prichard Hall 11, phone 304-696-2271.”
