Brittany Cook, Rachel Lawson, and Jessie McKee are all seniors in the Communication Disorders program at Marshall University. Brittany, Rachel, and Jessie are doing an independent study in the area of audiology. They are basing their study on the “Dangerous Decibels” program that is centered on educating the adult population on noise induced hearing loss. Their study involves implementing this program with children in a first grade classroom and seeing if children at this age can learn about the harmful effects of sound. To measure the children’s knowledge of the effects of sound a pre-test questionnaire will be given before the activity and a post-test questionnaire given after the activity to measure the amount of learning that has taken place.
