College of Science Advising

Freshmen and Sophomores have mandatory advising each semester. An advising hold placed on your record will prevent you from registering for classes. You must speak with an academic advisor before pre-registration to have your advising hold can be removed. The best time to see an advisor is before the pre-registration rush.

Juniors have mandatory graduation evaluation the semester you reach your 58+ credit hour. Request for the graduation evaluation is made in the College of Science Dean's Office, S 270. After a few days, you must return to discuss the results of your evaluation with Vicki Cole.

Seniors have mandatory graduation evaluation the semester you reach your 90+ credit hour. Request for the graduation evaluation is made in the College of Science Dean's Office, S 270. After a few days, you must return to discuss the results of your evaluation with Vicki Cole.

Preparing for an Advising Visit

Please bring the following:

  1. A tentative class schedule you may want to take the next semester.

  2. A list of questions you may want to ask.

  3. If you already have a schedule or partial schedule, bring copy of it with you.

Academic Advisors assist you in:

bullet selecting courses that meet your major and career goals,
bullet understanding the academic requirements by the College of Sciences and Marshall University, and
bullet finding resources to help you compose a semester schedule.

Academic Advisors do not:

bullet select specific times or instructors of courses, and
bullet register you for classes unless you are on Academic Probation or have a course overload.
