Confidentiality

Unfortunately, the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act prohibits College of Science faculty and staff from releasing information to parents concerning their child's grades, class attendance or performance, grades, or other specific. We understand that you may be paying for your son or daughter to attend Marshall however, as a public institution, please understand we cannot and will not release confidential information. Academic advisors are happy to answer parents' general questions about Marshall University and the College of Science's policy and procedures, resources, and academic programs. We strongly encourage all students to discuss their academic progress with their family.

If a student would like his or her advisor to be able to speak directly with his or her parent, the Office of Student Services has a "Consent to Release Information" form that the student may sign. This form will be kept in the student's file for the College of Science use only. This form does not apply to other Marshall University offices, faculty, or staff.
