| Marshall University Campus Watch |
|
|
| Campus Watch is a service oriented program which creates an opportunity to gain experience in crime prevention. It involves student, faculty and staff volunteers acting as the eyes and ears of the Marshall University Police Department. The volunteer duties include patrolling campus and its environs; escorting people to residence halls, the library, classroom buildings, and vehicles parked on, or near, campus; assisting the MUPD with crime prevention seminars, services and project ID; and deterring, preventing, detecting and reporting crimes in the University community. |

|
|
The Campus Watch Program will be inactive for the Fall 2006 Semester. Escorts will be performed by Marshall University Police Officers |
|
MUPD does escorts when Campus Watch is not Available. |

|
Volunteers are accepted from students, faculty and staff members of Marshall
University.
Each volunteer and supervisor devotes one shift per week patrolling. Alternates work on an irregular basis as time and need dictate. Members are also utilized to augment MUPD for special occasions and for Project ID. |

Prior to being accepted as a volunteer, the applicant must
go through a rigorous screening process. First, they complete a written
application. After this is reviewed by staff, a panel interview is scheduled.
The applicant also must supply names of four (4) non related persons
who are contacted for personal references. Other background checks (academic
and criminal) are completed to determine an applicant's eligibility.
Upon selection, volunteers attend an in-service training program conducted by the Office of Public Safety. |

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, pick up an application outside
Smith Hall 775; complete the application; and return it to Smith Hall 781,
Smith Hall 773 or the Marshall University Office of Public Safety.
You may then sign up for an interview. Generally, new members are taken during the beginning of each regular semester. |
