The Drag Gene: Appalachian Resiliency in Sexual Minorities

Carrie Nobel Kline, a folklorist and oral historian working out of Elkins, West Virginia, focuses on gathered stories chronicling the lives of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered people born and raised in the Appalachian region.

Ms. Kline, who earned a Master of Arts in American Studies from the State University of New York at Buffalo, hopes her research will document the experiences of a generally overlooked segment of the population, while simultaneously shedding light on the strength of Appalachian survival strategies.
