As a part of the Appalachia Wired: Webs of Diversity conference, there will be a poetry reading by Kelly Norman Ellis, Ph.D., of the Affrilachian Poets in the Drinko Library Auditorium.
Dr. Ellis was raised in the strong southern world of Jackson, Mississippi. She is a founding member of the Affrilachian Poets, a writing ensemble of the "coal black" voices of Appalachia. Her collection of poetry Tougaloo Blues (Third World Press) will be published in 2003. Currently, Dr. Ellis is Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Chicago State University.
