process as soon as possible. Acceptance into the Paramedic Program is contingent upon your

2. Do I have to be a to enter the program?

registry exam prior to the beginning of the Paramedic Program Courses. Our office can refer you to the proper
officials to assist you.
3. How much does the program cost?
You will be a full-time student at Marshall carrying a minimum of 17 hours per semester.
You will be charged the appropriate in state or other rate as deemed by MCTC – contact them
at the number above for this information. Keep in mind that, as a full-time student, you may
be eligible for financial aid – so get your admissions and financial aid paperwork completed
and returned as soon as possible.
There are several incidental costs associated with the program as well. You will be
responsible for books that cost approximately 350.00 over both semesters. You will purchase
a clinical uniform shirt and pants, approximately $50 for both. You must have a good
stethoscope. You will also be responsible for your certification and testing fees.
4. How much time will the class involve?
It’s no secret – Paramedic Courses are very time consuming. Classes will meet Monday thru
Wednesday nights. There are reading assignments and homework that are very extensive at times.
Our instructors make every effort to be reasonable in making assignments – but understand that
there is a huge amount of information to learn in
12 months.
You will be required to do approximately 400 hours of clinical rotations during the courses.
It is important to realize that this will not be difficult unless you wait until the end of
the course to do your rotations. These clinical rotations are VERY important to your
learning experience and are required for certification.
If you work fulltime or have a family, it is important that you realize that you will have
to work hard to juggle these responsibilities. Arrange schedules early with your employer
and make sure they are clear on the time requirements of the program. We strongly urge you
to talk this commitment over with your family as well – you will need their support and
patience to achieve your goals!
5. Will I be able to work in states other than West Virginia after I successfully complete
the program?
The Marshall Paramedic Program meets (and often exceeds) all requirements of the DOT National
Standard Curriculum and the National Registry of EMT’s. After successfully completing your
National Registry testing, you will be eligible for reciprocity in several states. Even
those states that do not recognize National Registry can make arrangements for reciprocity.
Our program can guide you in finding answers to these questions should you seek employment
outside of the local area.
