Design Matters

The Center for Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce the third of three workshops in our Pedagogy of Teaching and Learning Online (PTLO) workshop series. These workshops support faculty in developing, designing, and deploying an “online course” (100% online or e-course) or a “hybrid course” (75% of the course occurs online). Additionally, they may also be beneficial as instructional support for face-to-face courses that utilize various aspects of MUOnline.

 

Workshop Description

Design Matters is accepting registrations from individuals who have completed PM and are teaching, or will be teaching, online courses (e-courses or hybrids) in the coming academic year. The workshop focuses on building and strengthening the technological infrastructure of your online course. DM begins with a half-day, face-to-face workshop, has four online modules spaced one week apart. Using the materials designed in the PM (Pedagogy Matters) workshop, participants will align course technologies with the course outcomes, build learner support into the course, ensure accessibility of the course and content, and create a course overview and introduction. At the conclusion of DM, participants will have an online course that is faithful to the requirements of the institution and the essential components of Standards 6, 7, 8, and 1 of the Quality Matters rubric. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enrollees may choose between two options for the initial face-to-face meeting.

Eligibility Requirements

Faculty members who are eligible to participate in Design Matters (DM) are those who:

  1. Hold a faculty appointment (e.g., adjunct, term, tenure-track).
  2. Have completed PTLO: Pedagogy Matters (or will have completed prior to the beginning of Design Matters).
  3. Are teaching (or are planning to teach) an online or hybrid course sometime in the near future.
  4. Are committed to developing (or revising) a rigorous course that meets the Quality Matters standards.
