Mission
Mission for the Bachelors of Science:
The mission of the Didactic Program in Dietetics at Marshall
University is to offer a high quality undergraduate didactic program for
students from the tri-state area and nationally to meet the needs of this rural
region for dietetics professionals. The program will prepare graduates who will
be able to promote the optimal nutrition, health, and well being of individuals,
groups and communities.
Program Goals
The primary goals of the Didactic Program in Dietetics at
Marshall University are to:

Provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, and
competencies necessary to successfully compete for dietetic internship
positions.

Provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, and
competencies necessary to successfully complete a dietetic internship.
-
Provide graduates with the knowledge, skills, and
competencies necessary to pass the Registration Examination through a
variety of experiences in the classroom and the community.
Program Objectives
The objectives of the DPD at Marshall University are as follows:

Program graduates will pass the Registration Examination for
dietitians on their first attempt at at rate higher than the national
average.

Program graduates will remain competitive in obtaining
dietetic internships upon graduation.

Students will complete the program with a GPA of 2.5 or
higher.
-
Academic and clinical experiences provided by the program
will adequately prepare graduates for dietetic internships and entry-level
work in the field after graduation.
Mission for the Dietetic Internship
Marshall University Dietetic Internship is a post baccalaureate
program which provides students with the supervised practice experience needed
to become a Registered Dietitian. The internship has been granted full
accreditation by the American Dietetic Association's Commission on
Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education.
The program's mission is to prepare graduates who will be able
to promote the optimal nutrition , health, and well being of individuals,
groups, and communities. Community-based and interactive, the Dietetic
Internship provides students with a variety of nutrition experiences in schools,
businesses, health care facilities, and other community-based settings in urban
and rural areas.
Program Goals
The purpose and goals are to:

Prepare the students for an entry-level position as a
dietitian in clinical nutrition, food/nutrition management, nutrition
programs, and in nutrition/health research.

Provide opportunities to practice in a variety of health
care, business, school, and other community-based settings in urban and
rural areas.

Provide an environment which encourages profession and
personal development and practice.
Program Objectives
The Dietetic Internship provides the students with the
opportunity to:

Acquire knowledge and skills for entry-level practice in
dietetics, nutrition programs, for effective nutrition delivery services,
and for assisting in nutrition/health research.

Demonstrate competencies for entry-level practice in
dietetics, nutrition programs, for effective nutrition delivery services,
and for assisting in nutrition/health research.

Engages in collaborative relationships in supervised and
multi-disciplinary team settings in urban and rural areas to further develop
competencies for entry-level practice in dietetics, nutrition programs, for
effective nutrition delivery services, and for assisting in nutrition/health
research.
