About Dr. Dan Evans |

Research |
Dr. Evans is the Curator of the Marshall University Herbarium. His research focuses on the West Virginia flora and taxonomy of vascular plants, rare species, and wetland plant communities, as well as ethnobotany of indigenous people of the Andes and Upper Amazon Basin of Ecuador.
As the 19th Drinko Academy Fellow, Dr. Evans received a stipend, research monies, a student assistant, and reassigned time. In addition to continuing his research on Ecuador and Nepal, he has been producing images of the Herbarium's research plant collections for an online database.

Teaching |
Dr. Evans has regularly taught courses in Plant Toxonomy, Advanced Plant Taxonomy, Economic Botany, Medicinal Plants, Dendrology, and Wetland Science. He developed Advanced Plant Taxonomy, Wetlands, and Medicinal Plants, and co-developed Tropical Studies, a course held in Belize for College of Science students. In addition, he developed a Wetland Plant Identification course for employees of the Corps of Engineers in Huntington, WV.

Service |
Dr. Evans received the Elizabeth Ann Bartholomew Award for Distinguished Service to Botany and the Public. He is a member of the Urban Forestry Committee of Huntington, WV, and has served as President of the Society of Herbarium Curators and as a co-editor for the journal Castanea.
