Dr. Edwina D. Pendarvis was appointed Drinko
Fellow in April 2001. |

Edwina Pendarvis, Interim Director of the John R.
Hall Center for Academic Excellence, has worked in
the field of gifted education for 34 years, first
as a gifted resource room teacher in Florida, then
as a state-level administrator in Kentucky, as a
professor at Marshall University, and working with
college students in Marshall’s honors program. |

About Dr. Edwina D. Pendarivs |
|
|
She has co-authored three books on gifted education and written
numerous chapters and articles on gifted children and their
educational needs. Her research interests include gifted
programs in rural schools, language development of gifted
children, and gifted children who are early readers. |
|
In addition to her research in education, Dr. Pendarvis has
written essays, poetry, and short stories about Appalachian
people and events. She was associate editor of the Journal of
Appalachian Studies from 2001 to 2004 and is currently
co-director of Faces of Appalachia: Studies in Gender and
Ethnicity, a collaborative project sponsored by the National
Endowment for the Humanities, Marshall University, and the
Appalachian Studies Association. |
