Meet Ian Nolte. He grew up in Cabell County, and, despite always loving English and Huntington, he initially went to West Virginia University (no hard feelings, Ian) to study chemical engineering. He later attended Marshall, where earned an English degree. He then taught high school for ten years before returning to Marshall as a professor.

On Wednesday’s, there’s a pretty good chance you can find him at Black Sheep’s Comedy Night. He’s been performing there since their very first stand-up night. Comedy is something he’s been working on for about five years, and Ian can tell you that there’s a lot more that goes into it than just telling jokes. It’s a serious community where it’s important to conduct oneself professionally.

Another thing Ian takes seriously? Film. He’s very involved in our very own Film Studies program and says he feels “so incredibly lucky to be a part of it.” If you get the chance, you should take screenwriting. It’s one of his favorite courses to teach.

We’re really glad to have him as a faculty member.
