Rhetoric 1311 – Composition I: practice in writing, with an emphasis on personal, expressive writing, as well as transactional writing.
ENG 1013 - Composition I: theory and practice of written and oral exposition and research in traditional and electronic environments; rhetorical principles and organization in practice. Experimental strategies include co-teaching and focusing on identity rhetoric.
ENG 1023 - Composition II: theory and practice of critical exposition and rhetorical analysis in traditional and electronic environments; composing persuasive and investigative texts based on research. Experimental strategies include teaching in the writing center and focusing on political rhetoric.
FL 2013 - Mythology: survey of world mythologies and their global influence on the fine arts and literature. Co-taught in a MOO.
ENG 3203 - Advanced Grammar and Composition: concentration on the basic terminology and procedures of English grammar, rhetoric, and composition, with intensive practice. Specific focus: preparing students for exams for Texas teacher certification. Also prepared an online section.
ENG 2311 - Technical Writing: study of presentations of technical information to non-technical audiences through samples of such writing and through practice in specific tasks, such as process analyses, object descriptions, instructions, reports, manuals and business correspondence.
TWC 431/531 - Technical Editing: basic principles of technical editing (for print and electronic media) including copyediting, reviews, standards, style, and project management. This course includes both undergraduates and graduate students and it is taught solely online.
ENG 101 – Introduction to academic writing with emphasis on writing as multi-stage process, critical thinking, and fundamental research strategies and skills.
ENG 102 – Academic writing with an emphasis on research related writing and higher levels of critical thinking and reading.
ENG 354 – Scientific and Technical Writing: Types and styles of written reports required in science, governement, industry, and medicine. Practical applications adapted to the needs of the individual student.
Writing and Culture: A study of the way writing and culture re-vision each other.
Feminist Rhetoric: An intensive study of discourses which challenge patriarchy and hierarchy including (but not limited to) feminist histories of discourse, feminist theories, feminist pedagogies, feminist epistemologies, and feminist uses of technology.
Writing and Technology: The study of writing as it intersects with technology. The course will focus particularly on the creation, delivery, and reception of rhetorical messages through a variety of modes including text, image, sound, film, bodies, and more.
Visual Rhetoric: The study of meaning which is conveyed to an audience through means other than traditional text. The course helps students learn how to identify the often un-recognized uses of visual rhetoric, analyze those uses, and ultimately create visual rhetoric themselves.
ENG 640 – Teaching College English: The course focuses on pedagogy and practical application of pedagogy in the first-year writing class.
