The purpose of this research was to determine the need for strength training over the course of a baseball and softball season in order to maintain handgrip strength. Advantages to strength training in injured individuals have been clearly reported. The effect strength training has on grip strength in a healthy population is still lacking. This study concentrated on the variations of grip strength over a six-week period of no strength training in Division II softball and baseball athletes. Results showed only significant increases in grip scores with the right hand.
