Doctoral Dissertation Checklist for ETD Exemptions
Dissertation (submit three copies)
- Completed and approved
Marshall
University ETD Exemption Form (pdf) (Exemptions are granted only in rare instances).
- Signature
page with original signatures of committee members (bound in each copy).
- Acceptable margins and double-spaced.
- Pages and figures numbered consecutively.
- Clear and legible copies. The use of color graphics and dot
matrix print must have prior approval.
- White, acid free, 20 pound paper (no erasable bond, recycled
or perforated paper).
- Copyright statement appears in manuscript (copyright is optional but recommended).
- Printed copy of the title page with names of committee chair and members.
- Printed copy of the abstract page: page(s) unnumbered, double-spaced,
with 350 word maximum, include the word ABSTRACT,
the full title and student's name
- $55.00 microfilming fee (certified check or money order) made out to UMI.
- Complete and signed UMI Doctoral Dissertation Agreement Form
- Complete and sign Survey of Earned Doctorates Form.
- $60 for binding fee (check or money order made out to Marshall University).
- Fees may be subject to change.

Approval Form
If the dissertation is in
acceptable form, the Graduate College will complete and sign an approval form
indicating that all obligations regarding submission of the thesis have been fulfilled.
The original of the form will be given to the student,
which is to be forwarded to the appropriate office in the college/school or department
granting the degree. The bound copies of the the dissertation will be catalogued. One copy will be
placed in the University Archives, the second copy will be placed in the MUGC Library on
the South Charleston campus, and the third copy will be sent to the student's department.
