Copyright
At this time Marshall University is developing a
Copyright Policy, which will protect the rights of Marshall University and its faculty, staff and students regarding intellectual property. When this document is approved it will be mounted here.
In the meantime, you have three options for access to your electronic thesis or dissertation (ETD):
WORLDWIDE: This means that your ETD will be accessible on University webpages to
everyone without restriction. In the past all Marshall University theses and dissertations were in
this category, because the circulating copy in the University Library could be used and/or checked
out by any patron. This option will give the widest possible exposure to your ETD. Under most
circumstances you should select this option.
CAMPUS ONLY: This means that you are restricting the use of your ETD to computers
that are only at Marshall University. You should only select this option if you anticipate that your
ETD might be published in the near future. Some publishers, but not all, consider Worldwide
access to ETDs as publication and may not publish your ETD. If you select this option, it will last
for two years, after which time your ETD will revert to Worldwide access, unless you request
a one-time extension of one year. This request must be submitted by the first of December two years following the submission of your ETD.
RESTRICTED: This means that for the two years following the submission of your ETD no one will be allowed access to the full text of your ETD; only the Abstract will be accessible. It is strongly recommended that you do not select this option. After two years your ETD will revert
to worldwide access, unless you request a one-time extension of one year. This request must be submitted by the first of December two years following the submission of your ETD.
Patent and Invention Policy
Marshall University has a Patent and Invention Policy that may apply to your thesis/dissertation research. You may want to review this policy in the course of your degree work.
