Originally from Oklahoma, Dr. Lowry received her education at OU, OSU and UNCG.

  • At OU, Oklahoma University, she majored in English and Home Economics. Transferring to OSU, Oklahoma State University, she completed her degree, Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.
    Dr. Lowry taught junior high and high school home economics in Oklahoma and California.

  • Returning to OSU she worked as a graduate assistant and completed her Master’s in Clothing, Textiles and Merchandising.
    Upon graduation she continued to teach at OSU and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX, and University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she completed degree requirements for the Ph.D.
In March 2007, Dr. Lowry completed 20 years of teaching at Marshall University in the Family and Consumer Sciences program. She initiated the Retail/Fashion Merchandising emphasis at Marshall in 1987.

Dr. Lowry’s interests are in applications of design to interiors, apparel, and visual design.
Dr. Lowry has worked in costume design and community theatre plus consumer advocacy. Her hobbies include hand-made needlework, calligraphy, and gardening.

Dr. Lowry is a member:
  • AAFCS—American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • WVAFCS—West Virginia Affiliate of AAFCS and has been past state president.
    Currently she is chair of the International section of WVAFCS.
  • IFHE—International Federation of Home Economics.
